WAVE on COMM - CATCH THE WAVE: May-August 2009 - (2 hrs)
May 27, 2009, Tokyo - Shin-Kiba 1st RING (161 fans)
1. Moeka Haruhi -vs- Pinky Mayuka - (Catch the WAVE - Young Block) [1/2*]
--- Very basic young girls cradle action. Nothing impressive and WAVE's Haruhi beats JWP's Pinky.
3:25 of 9:43 - Haruhi pinned Mayuka with a Victory Roll
June 10, 2009, Tokyo - Shin-Kiba 1st RING (138 fans)
2. Ayumi Kurihara -vs- Pinky Mayuka - (Catch the WAVE - Young Block)
--- Why so little shown? Didn't look like a very good match if that was the highlights. Draw and point-share.
0:46 of 15:00 - Kurihara wrestled Mayuka to a 15:00 Time Limit Draw
0:49 of 5:00 - Kurihara wrestled Mayuka to a 5:00 Time Limit Draw
June 28, 2009, Osaka World Hall (204 fans)
3. Ayumi Kurihara -vs- Moeka Haruhi - (Catch the WAVE - Young Block) [1/2*]
--- More cradle action. And again nothing special at all except Kurihara getting the pinfall this time. And so she should against Haruhi.
3:23 of 12:45 - Kurihara pinned Haruhi with a Marron Clutch
July 5, 2009, Tokyo - Shin-Kiba 1st RING (127 fans)
4. Ryo Mizunami -vs- Moeka Haruhi - (Catch the WAVE - Young Block)
--- Simple win for Sendai girl Mizunami.....
1:25 of 10:08 - Mizunami pinned Haruhi after a top rope legdrop
July 12, 2009, Fujieda City Renge-ji Temple (501 fans)
5. Ryo Mizunami -vs- Pinky Mayuka - (Catch the WAVE - Young Block)
--- ....but JWP's Pinky wasn't so easy to wrestle. A time limit draw.
0:00 of 15:00 - Mizumami wrestled Mayuka to a 15:00 Time Limit Draw
0:33 of 5:00 - Mizumami wrestled Mayuka to a 5:00 Time Limit Draw
July 22, 2009, Tokyo - Shin-Kiba 1st RING (130 fans)
6. Ayumi Kurihara -vs- Ryo Mizunami - (Catch the WAVE - Young Block) [* 1/2]
--- This was quite a good basic fight. Then again both have the experience now to be more advanced then the basic young girls wrestling. This was a hard struggle for both and they gave it a lot, but no cookie. A double draw. And the Young Block goes to a decider between the same wrestlers....
3:52 of 15:00 - Kurihara wrestled Mizumami to a 15:00 Time Limit Draw
2:57 of 5:00 - Kurihara wrestled Mizumami to a 5:00 Time Limit Draw
August 10, 2009, Tokyo - Shin-Kiba 1st RING (148 fans)
7. Ayumi Kurihara -vs- Ryo Mizunami - (Catch the WAVE - Young Block - Decision) [* 1/4]
--- The re-match had a different story. Sendai's Mizunami had a hurting leg which slowed her down a lot and she was always looking in pain. And even if she didn't look like much of a threat to Kurihara they played it out with Mizunami being the one on attack managing to over-come her disability. But with the pain making her move in turtle speed she was eventually going to get caught by the speedy rabbit. And once unable to move away from Kurihara's attacks the match was soon over.
4:46 of 9:44 - Kurihara pinned Mizunami after a dropkick
May 27, 2009, Tokyo - Shin-Kiba 1st RING (161 fans)
8. Kyoko Kimura -vs- Kana - (Catch the WAVE - UK Block) [* 1/2]
--- Then for the UK block and it's a more direct and hard hitting style. Almost MMA at times and they worked stiff as hell like in their infamous 2008 WAVE match. Good to see someone still try and work a passionate stiff style in a company like this. A lot of hard blows of all kinds until the short 10-min time limit expired. One point each.
3:59 of 10:00 - Kimura wrestled Kana to a 10:00 Time Limit Draw
June 10, 2009, Tokyo - Shin-Kiba 1st RING (138 fans)
9. Misaki Ohata -vs- Shuu Shibutani - (Catch the WAVE - UK Block)
--- These two girls connected well too with hard attacks and submission work being in focus. Sadly it didn't have the speed to take off, but it had some good stand-alone moments before Ohata grabbed the submission victory with a kind of grounded Cobra Twist.
1:48 of 8:54 - Ohata made Shibutani submit to the Fairy Lock
June 20, 2009, Tokyo - Shin-Kiba 1st RING (176 fans)
10. Kana -vs- Misaki Ohata - (Catch the WAVE - UK Block)
--- Kana worked stiff again against the smaller girl who was a easy target for the kicks. Kana was maybe a little too scared to land the stiff offence which wasn't optimal for the actual execution of a lot of the blows, but at least they gave it a good shot. Kana lands enough kicks to beat the little one juts a few seconds before the time limit.
2:44 of 9:39 - Kana defeated Ohata by KO after a highkick
June 28, 2009, Osaka World Hall (204 fans)
11. Shuu Shibutani -vs- Kyoko Kimura - (Catch the WAVE - UK Block)
--- Only the last seconds shows of a draw.
0:12 of 10:00 - Shiburani wrestled Kimura to a 10:00 Time Limit Draw
July 5, 2009, Tokyo - Shin-Kiba 1st RING (127 fans)
12. Kana -vs- Shuu Shibutani - (Catch the WAVE - UK Block) [* 1/4]
--- Kana was the driving force in this one and deservingly won after attacking, attacking, attacking. Once she's weakend Shibutani enough it was time to lock her in the submission for the tap just 8 seconds from time.
4:43 of 9:52 - Kana made Shibutani submit to the Kanagon Sleeper
July 22, 2009, Tokyo - Shin-Kiba 1st RING (130 fans)
13. Kyoko Kimura -vs- Misaki Ohata - (Catch the WAVE - UK Block)
--- Ohata tried her best, but up against a power brawler like Kimura she in reality didn't stand a chance. Sleeper time!
2:20 of 7:38 - Kimura made Ohata submit to a sleeper
May 27, 2009, Tokyo - Shin-Kiba 1st RING (161 fans)
14. Yumi Ohka -vs- Toshie Uematsu - (Catch the WAVE - Technical Visual Block) [3/4*]
--- Fairly standard modern joshi wrestling with a 15-min time limit in this Technical Visual Block. And it's the Uematsu cradles and typical Ohka stuff we get. Nothing new at all except that Ohka is higher ranked then Uematsu in WAVE and gets the flash pin win.
3:52 of 11:21 - Ohka pinned Uematsu with a corss-arm jack knife cradle
June 10, 2009, Tokyo - Shin-Kiba 1st RING (138 fans)
15. Kaoru -vs- Apple Miyuki - (Catch the WAVE - Technical Visual Block)
--- Kaoru totally demolished Apple with table shots and Excalibers before landing the twisting sentong off the top.
2:06 of 11:06 - Kaoru pinned Miyuki after the Valkyrie Splash
June 20, 2009, Tokyo - Shin-Kiba 1st RING (176 fans)
16. Kaoru -vs- Toshie Uematsu - (Catch the WAVE - Technical Visual Block)
--- Veteran cradle wrestling to a unsatifying draw....
1:19 of 15:00 - Kaoru wrestled Uematsu to a 15:00 Time Limit Draw
July 5, 2009, Tokyo - Shin-Kiba 1st RING (127 fans)
17. Apple Miyuki -vs- Yumi Ohka - (Catch the WAVE - Technical Visual Block) [3/4*]
--- Modern joshi to a T. Kind of surprising that Kaientai Dojo's Apple Miyuki got the upset, but then again WAVE isn't exactly known for protecting their beauty fighter.
3:43 of 10:19 - Miyuki pinned Ohka with a small package
July 22, 2009, Tokyo - Shin-Kiba 1st RING (130 fans)
18. Toshie Uematsu -vs- Apple Miyuki - (Catch the WAVE - Technical Visual Block)
--- Not too impressive wrestling, but they got the finish clear as Miyuki tried her luck with the small package again, but Uematsu was waiting for it and reversed it into a package of her own for the count.
1:51 of 11:19 - Uematsu pinned Miyuki with a small package reversal
August 10, 2009, Tokyo - Shin-Kiba 1st RING (148 fans)
19. Yumi Ohka -vs- Kaoru - (Catch the WAVE - Technical Visual Block) [*]
--- Neither of these girls are known for being technical beauties, but they worked in some good energy as Kaoru's table piece came into play along with a nasty MDII from the veteran. Kaoru looked in charge, but ended up losing to WAVE's favorite.
4:51 of 10:16 - Ohka pinned Kaoru with a reversed cradle
May 27, 2009, Tokyo - Shin-Kiba 1st RING (161 fans)
20. Bullfight Sora -vs- Cherry - (Catch the WAVE - Comical Block) [1/4*]
--- The dreaded comedy group stage of the tournament. Milk, imaginary wrestlers, toy baseball bat and so on.... and they went 15 minutes to a draw. I'm so glad this was edited down.
3:03 of 15:00 - Sora wrestled Cherry to a 15:00 Time Limit Draw
June 10, 2009, Tokyo - Shin-Kiba 1st RING (138 fans)
21. Gami -vs- Cherry - (Catch the WAVE - Comical Block; Bat vs. Megaphone Barbed Wire Lumberjack Comical Death Match) [1/4*]
--- Painful. And I'm not talking about the barbed wire they used in this match.
3:11 of 15:00 - Gami wrestled Cherry to a 15:00 Time Limit Draw
June 20, 2009, Tokyo - Shin-Kiba 1st RING (176 fans)
22. Ran Yu Yu -vs- Cherry - (Catch the WAVE - Comical Block; Silent Comical Death Match)
--- Highlight was referee Tommy getting stockings thread over her head. Cherry also used a pizza cutter and a toilet plunger. That tells you all you need to know....
2:33 of 15:00 - Yu Yu wrestled Cherry to a 15:00 Time Limit Draw
June 28, 2009, Osaka World Hall (204 fans)
23. Gami -vs- Ran Yu Yu - (Catch the WAVE - Comical Block)
--- The poor crowd having to sit through all these long comedy draws.....
2:39 of 15:00 - Gami wrestled Yu Yu to a 15:00 Time Limit Draw
July 5, 2009, Tokyo - Shin-Kiba 1st RING (127 fans)
24. Gami -vs- Bullfight Sora - (Catch the WAVE - Comical Block) [1/4*]
--- A parody explosion match with party poppers replacing the bangs. They also brough in a BALLOON BOARD!!! Brutal.....it really was....
4:06 of 15:00 - Gami wrestled Sora to a 15:00 Time Limit Draw
July 22, 2009, Tokyo - Shin-Kiba 1st RING (130 fans)
25. Ran Yu Yu -vs- Bullfight Sora - (Catch the WAVE - Comical Block; Slow Motion Comical Death Match) [1/4*]
--- Yes, slo-mo fighting.....to a 15-min draw. Glad they didn't slow down the time too....
3:23 of 15:00 - Yu Yu wrestled Sora to a 15:00 Time Limit Draw
August 10, 2009, Tokyo - Shin-Kiba 1st RING (148 fans)
26. Bullfight Sora -vs- Gami -vs- Ran Yu Yu -vs- Cherry - (Catch the WAVE - Comical Block; 4-Way Elimination) [1/4*]
--- Yes, lets add all the silly bits from the group matches for the decider. Replay comedy brutality...... with the damn cow winning.
8:20 - Sora/Gami/Cherry eliminated Yu Yu via Over The Top Rope
11:05 - Sora/Gami eliminated Cherry via Over The Top Rope
6:45 of 17:41 - Sora pinned Gami with a huracanrana
August 11, 2009, Tokyo - Shin-Kiba 1st RING
27. Ayumi Kurihara -vs- Bullfight Sora - (Catch the WAVE - Semi-Final) [3/4*]
--- Damn, that cow! She got way too many near wins here. I'm just thankful Kurihara was awarded the win even if she didn't kill the cow.....
3:36 of 4:24 - Kurihara pinned Sora with the Marron Clutch
28. Yumi Ohka -vs- Kana - (Catch the WAVE - Semi-Final) [* 1/4]
--- A struggle for both. Mainly for Ohka though who got knocked down again and again and didn't look comfortable with the submission wrestling going on either, looking kind of irritated at Kana and her hard hitting style. They got a ok match out of it even if it wasn't a wrestling marvel. Ohka got to win after a long fight bombing Kana down.
7:45 of 15:39 - Ohka pinned Kana with a neck-hanging bomb
29. Yumi Ohka -vs- Ayumi Kurihara - (Catch the WAVE - Final) [**]
--- Final time and even if Ohka had just wrestled over 15 minutes compared to Kurihara's 5, they pulled off a long final-worthy bout giving this mixed tournament a good ending. They pulled out a lot of their big stuff aswell as displaying that fighting spirit and exhaustion as they beat each other up. Kurihara kicked out of the neck-hanging bomb and Ohka survivied the Marron Clutch. Neither Ohka's big boot got a result. But as we know now, Ohka's main finisher these days is the Tiger Suplex and once that one landed it was over and Yumi Ohka could celebrate the Catch the WAVE tournament win!
9:11 of 17:25 - Ohka pinned Kurihara with a Tiger Suplex to win the Catch the WAVE tournament.
COMMENTS: Heavily edited tournament as WAVE shows the main happenings in all of the Catch the WAVE tournament matches. I'm glad they didn't decide to release this tournament unedited. That Comedy Block looked painful....
